War of Gog and Magog

The War of God and Magog

With all of this talk of Russia and nuclear war, it’s interesting that this week’s Torah portion includes Ezekiel 38:18-39:16, which depicts God and Magog coming against Israel and being annihilated by fire coming down from heaven.

The only other Biblical text to depict this battle is Revelation 20:7-11, which places it just after the Millennial Reign of the Messiah in Israel… a time in which there is great peace on the earth. Thereafter, the adversary will be released to deceive the nations, spurning on the attack from Gog and Magog. Regardless of whether this is referring to Russia or not, we have no need to worry for 2 reasons:

  1. It’s not for at least another 1000 years +
  2. God destroys them with fire… so they don’t get very far

Before this time of peace comes, both JUDAH and ISRAEL must be gathered together and reunited in Israel. This refers to the two houses of Israel.

Remember when Yeshua said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel”. Judah, largely, has been restored to the land (although there are more still to come). It is Israel (aka Ephraim) that needs to be found and restored.

ISRAEL includes not only 10 tribes descended from Jacob, but also all of those who will JOIN themselves by faith into Israel:

“For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly”

-Rom 2:28

“Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ”

-Eph 2:11-13

As children of Israel, it is of no use to simply call ourselves “Israel”, “believers”, “christians”, or “jews”. We must demonstrate who our MASTER is by our FAITHFULNESS.

“Faith”, in Hebrew, is the word Emunah, which translates more closely to “faithfulness” or “fidelity”.

“”Abraham is our father,” they replied. “If you were children of Abraham,” said Jesus, “you would do the works of Abraham.”

-John 8:39

“Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh— Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”

-Jeremiah 9:23-26

It is my prayer that all believers continue to grow into the maturity found in Messiah Yeshua, that we may walk as He walked… in the works and Spirit of the Father.

BACK to Gog and Magog for an interesting tidbit:

Ezekiel 39:14 says, “They will set apart men to travel through the land regularly and bury those travelers remaining on the face of the land, so as to cleanse it. “

Why would they need to set apart certain men?

Why would they need to BURY the bones and designate their presence?

It’s actually quite simple and practical. The laws associated with cleanliness STILL APPLY! Contact with the dead creates an impurity that would desecrate the temple and bring impurity into any holy area. Desecrating a holy area is a grave crime according to the Torah.

Numbers 5:1-4 (quarantine)
Numbers 19  (cleansing for contact with dead)
Lev 21:1-4 (special prohibitions for priests)

Tidbit takeaway: the laws of the Torah still apply in the Millennial kingdom as well as today!

If you are curious as to why there is a need for cleansing even while Yeshua sits on His throne in the millennial kingdom, then please contact me. I’d be happy to answer your question, and hopefully I will make a post on that subject soon.

May we, as little children, learn to walk as He walked and experience profound intimacy with the Father. Shalom!
