If we are the Temple, then His shekina dwells among us, and cleanliness truly is next to Godliness in the Bible.
The word (memra) became flesh and tabernacled among us. Why tabernacled and not templed?
Because it was moveable, transportable, and ultimately temporary for a time. In the New Temple on earth there is no Temple for YHWH and the Lamb are (both together) it’s temple.
Yeshua was the shekina on earth. He was what was shown to Moses on the mount. The “heel” or “backside” of Yah. The curtain shielded the eyes of the priests from seeing the shekina. The incense also shielded man from seeing the radiance of His Shekina in such a way that no man can see and live.
Why was the Holy Spirit needed to “be sent”? Because He was fully in Yeshua. He must go away (return to the Father) in order for the Ruach to be meted out into our collective Temple of the Ruach.
When does the Ruach fill us most? When we walk in cleanliness and in Torah. When we gather for the moedim. When we fulfill His mitzvot with zeal. When we center our hearts and welcome Him.
Yahweh says He commanded the temple to be built so His presence could dwell among them (Ex 25:8), but He also states that He delivered them from Egypt so His presence could dwell among them (Ex 33). Which is it?
Both. We must be saved and we must be sanctified.
The temple is a body. The sages say the Ark was the heart. What was in the ark?
Tablets of stone. Jeremiah says He will write the Torah on our hearts and He will give us hearts of flesh instead of hearts of stone.
Why were the tablets given twice?
Because the first set was written by man. The second by the finger of God. Just as Yeshua was broken on our behalf yet renewed in glory with the renewal of covenant. The ultimate fulfillment of this covenant is when we have been transformed into imperishable beings by the hand of the Almighty.
In the millennial Temple there is no ark, or at least its presence is paled to such a degree in comparison to Yeshua that it seems there is no ark. Jeremiah says in 3:16 the Ark will not come to mind. Yeshua will sit on the throne, which is Jerusalem. Yeshua is the Ark, the heart of God on earth.
Yeshua is the veil. The veil was torn. The veil was wool (normally white) dipped in blood… the garment of God and also the garment of the priests. The priests were sprinkled with blood only once which was during their consecration. The Lamb shed His blood only once and the crown of thorns sent it dripping onto His right ear…the nails to his right thumb and right great toe. The water (Mikva) and the blood (life detergent of death) gushed forth from His side. You must be born of water and of blood to enter the Kingdom. The same thorns that were formed from the curse upon Adam’s exile from the Garden causing our mortal flesh to spill blood upon the cursed earth would be the thorns to pierce our savior’s, the second Adam, head sending blood dripping down to redeem the earth. The veil torn. The gate. The door. The one way to the Father, giving us access by His blood to something so distant and far… the intimacy we once had walking in the cool of the day with the Father. Something we will only experience when we obtain eternal life and death is no more. This was inaugurated for us on the cross and will be consummated AFTER the Millennial reign of Messiah on the earth.
The poles of the Ark aren’t just poles. The word is “trees” of Acacia overlaid with gold. Like the two trees in the Garden. Guarded by the cherubim which shield their faces from the glory of Yah. The entrance to Eden faced east, just like the entrance to the temple. The flaming sword guarding it pointing every direction. The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God… not just some thing but a Person. The Shekinah. The Image. The Flame.
With the presence of the Lamb sitting as king, blood sacrifices will continue (as death has not yet been destroyed), but the dynamics will be different to some degree (Ez 45-46).
In Yeshua’s time the Ark was not in the Temple. The Heart of God beat inside the body of Yeshua. Yeshua, after His death, resurrected into an incorruptible state. We too will one day be given a heart of flesh and no more teach his neighbor “know YHWH” (Jer 31, Heb 8) .
His reign will usher in the Kingdom of God, with the Melchisedekian high priest sitting on the throne. Not replacing the Levitical system, but in fact restoring it as He gathers Levites (Ez 44) from all nations to fulfill their temple duties. This is the beginning of the transition of the earth into the heaven. It is the messianic reign to usher in righteousness and seal up prophecy. The beginning of the transformation of the earth.
We will once again have a Melchisedekian king sitting on the throne ruling while overseeing the Levitical priesthood… just as occurred during the days of King David and Moshe.
If you remember, David offered sacrifices to God on several occasions and presided over the worship services of the Levites. Moshe entered into the most Holy Place routinely to converse with God, something not even Aaron could do. These two (and others) served as Melchisedeks who had unique, intimate relationships with God. Yeshua being the image and shekinah of God Himself.
We, as the people of God, have a directive to build and usher in the Kingdom as Yeshua says the Kingdom is within our midst. He says it will not come in ways that can be observed nor will anyone be able to say “look there it is!”.
In Messiah we can agree with the sages in saying both that:
“each generation in which the Bias Hamikdash is not rebuilt in its days as it were, that in which it was destroyed” (Yoma 1:1)
And that whoever learns of the Laws of the Bias Hamikdash is considered as if the Bias Hamikdash was built in their days (Menachot 111:A)
In learning and promulgating Torah and Temple law we are contributing to the construction of the Temple of Yah both in the earthly and the heavenly.
Continuing from Exodus into Leviticus we see another profound mystery.
Leviticus 1 is where young Jewish boys begin their Torah instruction and is where Jesus would have begun his study of scripture in the first century when He came of age.
Want to learn scripture like Jesus did? Then start in Leviticus and learn from ancient rabbinical sources as well as modern sources.
“‘Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, Any man of you when he doth bring near an offering to Jehovah, out of the cattle — out of the herd, or out of the flock — ye do bring near your offering.”- Youngs Literal Translation
““Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock..” -ESV
The Hebrew wording in this verse seems to be jumbled. The grammar and syntax is strange. There seems to be a mix of 1st person, 2nd person, changes in plural and singular throughout, and irregularities in the subject in question. Usually when this happens in the Hebrew text it is a clue that there is a Sod-level (hidden) meaning in the passage.
The ancient sages taught that the “man” referred to here is the first Adam, or more accurately, the “heavenly Adam”. The word for “man” is “adam”. It is taught that the first man who was created and placed in the Garden of Eden is actually a copy of the heavenly Adam, thus making the heavenly Adam the first true man.
When we understand that the heavenly Adam is Yeshua (Jesus) then we can see a glorious mystery in these few verses surrounding Leviticus 1.
“If his offering [is] a burnt-offering out of the herd — a male, a perfect one, he doth bring near, unto the opening of the tent of meeting he doth bring it near, at his pleasure, before Jehovah; and he hath laid his hand on the head of the burnt-offering, and it hath been accepted for him to make atonement for him; -Lev 1:3-4
The offering spoken of is a burnt offering (Olah) although in Hebrew the word is not actually “burnt”… it is “elevated”. This is because the offering is truly burnt and the smoked rises up as a sweet smelling aroma. It should be called an elevation offering.
Note that most modern translations leave out the “at his pleasure” (YLT) or “of his own voluntary will” (KJV). This important phrase indicates that it is a freewill offering, rather than one that is required to remedy the effects of one’s own sin.
YET, the text itself says that it is to “make atonement for him”. How then is it both a freewill offering AND an offering to atone for sin?
The sages taught that this freewill offering cleansed sins of the mind… or the conscience, whereas the chattat and asham offerings were for cleansing the effects of actions committed in the flesh.
Now when we see that Yeshua (the heavenly Adam) is the one bringing this offering, we see that he draws near to the Father to make atonement on our behalf, of His own will, in order to cleanse the conscience of those who draw near.
I’m going to share with you a mystery of the gospel of Messiah.
“But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,a he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” -Hebrews 9:11-14
Are you confused as to why Paul refers to Christ as the second Adam?
Why would Paul call Jesus the second Adam (1 Cor 15:47) if Jesus was pre-existent to creation?
“So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”;e the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual. The first (PROTOS) man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second (DEUTEROS) man is from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.” -1 Cor 15:42-49
First and Second are not the concepts intended here. PROTOS and DEUTEROS are!
The protos is a reference to the holy place. This is the area of the tabernacle / temple where a person could enter and worship when in a clean state. It represents this present age. That which is “becoming obsolete”. The Olam Haze’.
The deuteros is a reference to the MOST holy place. This is the area that only the high priest could enter. It represents the Age to come. The Olam Haba’.
“These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section (PROTOS), performing their ritual duties, but into the second (DEUTEROS) only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people. By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation (AGE TO COME).” -Hebrews 9:6-10
The VEIL separated the PROTOS from the DEUTEROS. Yeshua, entered the DEUTEROS by His own blood to make atonement on our behalf, cleansing our consciences.
The author of Hebrews indicates that the way into the Olam Haba (age to come, heaven on earth) is CLOSED as long as the PROTOS is still standing. This was written decades after Yeshua’s death and resurrection. This way is still CLOSED to us, BUT we have a High Priest in the DEUTEROS!!!
When the VEIL was torn it symbolized the fact that Yeshua did something which would enable us to enter into the Olam Haba, the age to come.
Yeshua entered into the heavenly temple as high priest. One day Heaven will come to earth and we will enter the Olam Haba’, but first must come the “reformation” when we are no longer flesh and blood but have been made immortal.
“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” -Hebrews 9:11-14
RIGHT NOW we pertain to the PROTOS. We pertain to the Olam Haze’, this present age. The temple and the levitical priesthood stand today as symbols of this current age. Even so, the Messiah Yeshua Himself will preside over the sacrifices and offerings conducted in the Millennial temple! (Ezekiel 46)
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. -Hebrews 8:10-11
In the Olam Haba, we will no longer need to evangelize. His word will be on our hearts. Sin and iniquity will be a thing of the past, the olam haze’, which will no longer pertain to us.
“In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” -Hebrews 8:13
The writer of Hebrews wrote this decades after Yeshua’s death and resurrection yet while the temple was still operational. Nothing in Hebrews implies that the temple system IS obsolete. He is pointing to the fact that we are STILL in this present world yet the time of Reformation is coming!
Nothing in the earthly temple could cleanse our conscience / purify our souls, but pertained only to the flesh, yet we have a High Priest in the DEUTEROS making atonement for our souls.
The Millennial temple is a time in which the present age and the age to come will be mixing together. It will be a time of transformation. Like brackish waters becoming fresh! The healing waters of Messiah will flow from the east end of the temple and spread through the earth literally healing the land and replenishing the world.
“Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate that faces toward the east; and behold, the water was trickling out on the south side.
Going on eastward with a measuring line in his hand, the man measured a thousand cubits,a and then led me through the water, and it was ankle-deep. Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was knee-deep. Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was waist-deep. Again he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through. And he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?”
Then he led me back to the bank of the river. As I went back, I saw on the bank of the river very many trees on the one side and on the other. And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea; when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh. And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes. Fishermen will stand beside the sea. From Engedi to Eneglaim it will be a place for the spreading of nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea. But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they are to be left for salt. And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.” -Ezekiel 47:1-12
The Dead Sea will come to life! The sea has long been a symbol of death and the grave. The Messianic Age will usher in an amazing time of life and healing, leading up to the ultimate defeat of death itself.
In the Millennial temple, Yeshua will preside over the sacrifices and offerings. A very interesting thing is noted by the prophet Ezekiel in his vision of the Millennial Temple!
“Thus says the Lord GOD: The gate of the inner court that faces east shall be shut on the six working days, but on the Sabbath day it shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened. The prince shall enter by the vestibule of the gate from outside, and shall take his stand by the post of the gate. The priests shall offer his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate. Then he shall go out, but the gate shall not be shut until evening. The people of the land shall bow down at the entrance of that gate before the LORD on the Sabbaths and on the new moons. The burnt offering that the prince offers to the LORD on the Sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish and a ram without blemish…. When the prince provides a freewill offering, either a burnt offering or peace offerings as a freewill offering to the LORD, the gate facing east shall be opened for him. And he shall offer his burnt offering or his peace offerings as he does on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and after he has gone out the gate shall be shut.” -Ezekiel 46:1-4,12
The gate facing East is the typification of the entrance to the tabernacle, which faced east. Together these are symbolic of the entrance into the Garden of Eden, whose gate was to the East and guarded by cherubim and a flaming Sword.
The Garden of Eden represents the DEUTEROS. The Eastern gate is to remain closed at all times with the exception of the three examples given above. The Prince, Messiah Yeshua, who is the Melchitsedek (Royal Priest), will have this gate open during the time of His freewill offering, on the Sabbath day and on the New Moon. During these times the people could gather at the eastern gate facing west gazing into the HOLY PLACE towards the MOST HOLY PLACE.
The three examles:
1. Sabbath is a symbol of the age to come. “Yom shekulo shabbat” is the day when all will be sabbath. In the talmud it is a reference to the Messianic Age.
2. New Moon. Rosh Hodesh (new moon) represents a time of spiritual renewal and perfection. The renewal of the moon hints at the Olam Haba. The moon is a diminished light, merely a reflection of the light of the sun, and its renewal is a reminder of a time to come when there will be no need for sun and moon for His light will be all that we need.
3. The freewill offering of the Prince. This again is a reference to the Messiah giving of His own blood of His own will to provide cleansing for our consciences and purifying of our souls so that we too will one day enter into the DEUTEROS.
At all other times the Eastern gate must remain shut and no one may enter it because Yahweh God has entered it! Only ONE may enter it and sit and eat bread before Yahweh, and that is Prince Yeshua!
“Then he brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, which faces east. And it was shut. And the LORD said to me, “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered by it. Therefore it shall remain shut. Only the prince may sit in it to eat bread before the LORD. He shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gate, and shall go out by the same way.” -Ezekiel 44:1-3
During this time when the people appear before God for the feasts and appointed times they must enter through either the north or south gate and exit through the opposite.
“When the people of the land come before the LORD at the appointed feasts, he who enters by the north gate to worship shall go out by the south gate, and he who enters by the south gate shall go out by the north gate: no one shall return by way of the gate by which he entered, but each shall go out straight ahead. When they enter, the prince shall enter with them, and when they go out, he shall go out.” -Ezekiel 46:9-10
When we come in before Him we do not leave in the same way that we came. The Prince enters in with us and draws us near. We are changed, just like the one day when we will take up immortality and have access to the DEUTEROS. To enter in through the Eastern Gate and eat freely of the tree of life!
When we enter through the south and exit through the north, or vice versa, we come to make our offering of blood. With the altar in the center we essential cross a blood threshold indicating our entrance into covenant relationship and blessing found in Messiah. It is this deuteros covenant that we are apart of.. this covenant of renewal and immortality to come.
“I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.” -1 Cor 15:50-52
“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever…. Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates…. The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.” -Revelation 22:1-5, 14, 17
